How it works
Pick a city and a date to see the sunrise and sunset times, the total daylight hours, and the moon phase for that day — calculated directly in your browser using standard astronomical formulas, not a live service.
See sunrise, sunset, day length and the moon phase for any city and date.

They're accurate to within a minute or two for most locations, based on standard solar position formulas; local terrain (mountains, tall buildings) can shift the exact moment you see the sun.
It's calculated from the number of days since a known reference new moon, using the moon's average 29.53-day cycle — the same math astronomers have used for centuries.
Because Earth's axis is tilted, the angle of sunlight reaching each location changes as Earth orbits the Sun — the same tilt that causes the seasons.
